Canton Tower

Overlooking Guangzhou’s CBD is the awe-inspiring Canton Tower,a landmark soaring an amazing 610 meters up the sky. Visiting the tower is a must-do for so many visitors and locals of Guangzhou – they report receiving at least 3 million tourists each year!

There are no offices or apartments on any of the building’s 112 floors, which means it is entirely built for pleasure. Well, unless you want to commit suicide – in which case the 433-meter high star observation deck will do the trick ;). Jokes aside, Canton Tower is an awesome place to go for a nice view of Guangzhou city, movies and entertainment, meals, free-fall ride, and so much more.

Canton Tower Highlights

Breathtaking Views from the Observation Decks
There are several observation decks, both open air and enclosed, for you to enjoy looking down at the busy city and Pearl River or watch the sunset.

Bubble Tram
On the 111th floor, you could get onboard one of the 16 glass Ferris wheels and enjoy viewing the whole of Guangzhou city (including what’s below your feet) as the wheel rotates slowly.

Glass Skywalk
As you may imagine, this part may be a bit scary for a first-timer. Imagine walking on a glass floor on the edges of the tall tower such that you can see through to the ground.

Spider Walk
The spider walk is a flight of spiral stairs on the outside of the building between the 33rd and 66th floors. Enjoy walking the Spider Walk stairwells, marvel at the glowing LED lights on the building’s beams, and witness the symbolism of Guangzhou’s place in modern architecture.

Mega Drop
The 30-meter drop may not be the longest sky ride out there is, but the adrenaline rush will certainly speed up your heartbeat.

The ticket prices at Canton Tower vary significantly depending on the features you would like to access. Basic entry is the cheapest, at 50 RMB. Apart from just paying for access to different zones, the fee may get higher to include specific attractions.

Accessing a zone does not necessarily mean your ticket is inclusive of all the features on that level. For instance, although zone E has the Bubble Tram and the Lookout, you will have to pay a little extra to gain access to them. That’s why we haven’t included charges for the rest of zone E on the table above.

In case you purchase a ticket and find that it does not cover all of the things you wanted to enjoy, there is no need to worry – there are individual tickets for each interest. And, if you bring children, they get to enjoy some cool discounts depending on their heights. Here are the most common bundle tickets.

Zone and Price
D + Spiderwalk $190
E + Spiderwalk $230
E + Ferris Wheel $260
E + Mega Drop $260
E + 488 Lookout $280

Note: China is mostly a cash-based economy, so you might want to stuff up your wallet. In a few instances, you might find signs that say credit cards such as Mastercard and Visa are usable, only to find it’s not the case. Also, things change you know. Things like prices for example.

Getting To Canton Tower

By Metro: On the Chigang Pagoda Station, take Line 3 (the orange one). There will be plenty of signs in English so you can have an easier time navigating even if you can’t read Chinese. Fares depend on the distance you cover. You can find exact rates on the Guangzhou City Metro Website.

If you are coming from the North, you can take the APM Line but you’ll have to switch trains at Linhe West Station, an interchange hub where Line 3 goes through as well.

By Taxi: There are plenty of affordable cabs in Guangzhou that will drop you off at Canton Tower’s entrance. More so, you can always find a taxi on your way out because there are always plenty of people getting dropped off.

English well enough.
