Yuanjiajie Scenic Area
Located in the northern portion of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, is the incredible Yuanjiajie Scenic Area. Both Yuanjiajie and Zhangjiajie comprise the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. With its otherworldly natural beauty, Yuanjiajie is considered perhaps the most beautiful section of the entire UNESCO site. The stone obelisk formations complete with vegetation on the platforms are unlike any other place on Earth. Yuanjiajie Scenic Area is certainly a must-see attraction on any private Zhangjiajie tour.
Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, along with Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, and Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve make up Wulingyuan. In 1992, UNESCO deemed the entire area a World Heritage Site. Yuanjiajie is comprised of four main sites, which include Qiankun Zhu, Tianxia Diyi Qiao, Hou Huayuan, and Mihun Tai.
The scenic area provides essential habitat for numerous threatened species of plants and animals, including the Asiatic black bear, Chinese water deer, and dhole (also known as the Asiatic wild dog). It’s an oasis of spectacular natural beauty within a densely populated agricultural region.
Golden Whip Stream
Located in the eastern portion of the unbelievable Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is Golden Whip Stream. Named after Golden Whip Peak that it flows past, the stream meanders through several kilometers of the most beautiful section of the national park. Visitors follow the stream along paths through stunning natural beauty, where numerous species of animals and rare plant life reside. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Golden Whip Stream is a beautiful nature attraction that cannot be missed on any tour of Zhangjiajie.
Meandering through the most enchanting section of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Golden Whip Stream is 5.7 km (3.5 miles). In 1992, UNESCO deemed the entirety of the national forest park a World Heritage Site. Several species of rare wildflowers and trees flourish in this area. Both the stream and national park are part of the sprawling Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area, which covers an expansive 397.5 square kilometers (153.5 square miles).
In 2001, 2001, the Ministry of Land and Resources classified Zhangjiajie specifically (including Golden Whip Stream) as a geopark. In 2004, UNESCO included the area in its global geoparks network.
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon
Located around 50 km from downtown Zhangjiajie, is the remarkable Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. With its tranquil forests and plunging waterfalls, it is a must-see nature attraction to visit on your private Zhangjiajie tour. Close to Wulingyuan Scenic Area, the canyon covers a total area of 60 square km.
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is comprised of an incredible array of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, caves, and cliff formations. This area is famous for its thousands of sandstone pillars and peaks, some towering 660 ft (200 meters) in the air.
Numerous attracts dot the canyon including Red Flag Canal, A Strip of Sky and Sky Ladder, and Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge. This is the most famous attraction in the canyon. When it opened to the public on August 2016, it was the tallest and longest glass-bottomed bridge in the world.
Baofeng Lake is part of the Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve and is a go-to nature attraction on any tour of Zhangjiajie. In fact, Baofeng is the only lake scenic spot in all of spectacular Zhangjiajie. It is actually a reservoir, complete with a dam, often used for crop irrigation.
Covering an area of 275 hectares, the scenic area is comprised of Baofeng Lake and Yingwo Village. Situated in the northern region of Hunan province, Baofeng Lake is not far from the city of Changde. The place possesses a fantastical quality, being surrounded by such majestic scenery. The unique rock formations of the peaks make it an almost magical locale to visit. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Zhangjiajie has the distinction of being named China’s first national park and has become a world-renowned attraction for the region. It was deemed Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in 1982, and in 1992, UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Site. Additionally, in 2004, Zhangjiajie was named a UNESCO Global Geopark.
