Suzhou or Su Embroidery is one of the oldest embroidery techniques in the world which dates back more than 2000 years. Su Embroidery is characterized by brightly colored silk embroidered with beautiful and well-proportioned representations of human being, animals, objects or scenery. Suzhou Silk had a worldwide reputation as early as Tang and Song dynasties (618 A.D.-1279 A.D.). As Suzhou is surrounded by mulberry fields and benefits from abundant sunshine, plentiful rainfall, and fertile land, it is the perfect environment for silkworms to produce good quality cocoons. Hence it made Suzhou as one of the most famous production, collection and distribution base for raw silk materials in ancient China.
Taohuawu New Year Woodcarving paintings had been developed since the Song Dynasty. They are beautifully designed, colorful paintings printed by the woodcarvings. The paintings normally represent the festive customs, the daily life in the South of Yangtze River Delta and scenes from folktales in ancient China. It’s an interesting experience to know the traditional culture and art in China.
The Sandalwood Fan had existed since ancients times. It’s made of bamboo slats and rice paper. The craftsman usually draws flowers, woman, birds, mountains, water, etc on the upper half of the fan.
