Day 1 Arrival at Beijing

Welcome to China, with its 5000-year history, splendid culture and fascinating landscapes. This off-the-beaten-track tour starts from the capital city Beijing. Upon arrival, our local experienced tour guide and driver will hold a pick-up sign with your name and meet with you at the Arrival Hall of Beijing International Airport. Then, be transferred to your hotel in the downtown core. The rest of the day, you are free to explore at your leisure.

Forbidden City

Day 2 Beijing

After enjoying the breakfast, the daytrip starts from Tiananmen Square, the biggest city square in the world. Covering 440,000 square meters, it has witnessed many important historical events. Next, discover the Forbidden City, one of the five most famous palaces in the world where the 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties lived and ruled for over 500 years. Afterward, visit Jingshan Park, the former imperial garden of the Ming and Qing dynasties where you can have a panoramic view of the entire Forbidden City.

Lunch will be a delicious local Chinese meal.

This afternoon, visit the Summer Palace, the best-preserved imperial garden in the world that boasts architectural masterpieces as well as beautiful scenery. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was originally a retreat for Empress Cixi and the emperor built in late Qing Dynasty.

Dinner will be delicious Peking Roasted Duck at the famous Quanjide Restaurant, which is one of the most famous restaurants specializing in this dish in Beijing.

Summer Palace

Day 3 Beijing

Activities: Hiking on the Great Wall.

Today, you will spend the entire day exploring the fantastic Mutianyu Great Wall and enjoy the spectacular views. The section of the Great Wall is far more remote and has fewer visitors than other sections.

As the northern barrier defending the capital and imperial tombs in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the section is surrounded by woodland and streams. It was restored in the early 1980s, and we will starting hiking in a remote village. The village is about 45 miles away from Beijing. The trip will finish 12 densely placed towers with a total length of 2 km in 2 hours.
You will be picked up at your hotel at 8 am this morning and transferred to a remote village near Mutianyu (1.5 hrs). You will start  hiking around 9:30, and it will take about 2 hours to complete the hike (2.5km). Along the 12 watchtowers, we will spend 1.5 hours on the first 7 abandoned watchtowers at the original and untouched section which is not easy at the very beginning. Once you reach the restored part the Wall, you will find it’s easier to walk. You have the options downhill: either by walking or by slide-ride (optional).

A lunch at a local restaurant will be organized after the hiking before returning your hotel.

Mutianyu Great Wall

Day 4 Beijing-Zhangjiajie

This morning you will visit the Temple of Heaven where emperors conducted the religious rituals and prayed for good harvests in the Qing and Ming dynasties. It is one of the most important landmarks of Beijing. Next, take a leisurely rickshaw tour in Beijing Hutong and get to know the local lifestyle and traditional residences. Afterward, visit the famous Drum Tower where you can enjoy the traditional drum striking performance there.

Lunch will be a delicious Chinese meal.

This afternoon, stroll around the famous Silk Street which is highly recommended place for shopping. The last stop is 798 ART Zone which was converted from the former state-owned electronic factories. Now, it is occupied by the art galleries, art studios, designing studios, and stores. It’s a must-see destination for the people who love art.

Afterward, you will be transferred to take the departing flight to the extraordinary Zhangjiajie. Once there, be picked up and transfer to your hotel in the downtown.

Temple of Heaven

Day 5 Zhangjiajie

Today, begin your exploration tour in the fascinating Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, which consists of more than 3000 pillar-like formations. First, walk along the Golden Whip Valley which is very scenic. It takes about 2.5-3 hours walking and is mainly on a flat path. After that, you will ascend the mountain by the Bailong Elevator. You will then visit Yuanjiajie Scenic Area. Some of the sites include Jiutianxuanti, Qiankun Pillar, Lianxi Bridge, and Mihuntai (the best scenic platform inYuanjiajie). Here you will trek and visit for 1.5-2 hours. You will then take the shuttle bus to Dingxiangrong Village and check into a local guest house.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Day 6 Zhangjiajie

Meals: Breakfast, Chinese Lunch, Chinese Dinner

In the morning, you will trek to visit Laowuchang Scenic Area which includes Shenxiansuo, Shenbingjuhui, Kongzhongtianyuan, etc. It takes about 3-3.5 hours or so to trek and visit. Then you will take a shuttle bus to Yangjiajie Scenic Area. Here, you will visit Jinjibaoxiao, Three Netherworld Gates, Wulongzhai, Tianbofu, Yibudengtian, Heavenly Walk, etc. You will trek and visit there for 4.5-5 hours. Then take the shuttle bus to the village of Ding Xiang Rong. Stay overnight in the guesthouse.

Zhangjiajie

Day 7 Zhangjiajie

Meals: Breakfast, Chinese Lunch, Chinese Dinner

This morning, take a shuttle bus to Tianzi Mountain Scenic Area. You will do the hiking and visit Shentangwan, Dianjiangtai, Xihai, Yubifeng, Helong Park, amongst other sites. It takes about 2-2.5 hours. Afterward, take the shuttle bus to Daguantai Scenic Area. In the area, you will visit Shenzjizhuoshi, Yibunanxing, Fairy Bridge, etc. It takes about 2.5-3 hours. Finally, take the shuttle bus back to Yuanjiajie Area and descend by Bailong Elevator. Afterward, transfer back to the hotel.

Tianzishan Mountain

Day 8 Zhangjiajie-Guilin

Meals: Buffet Breakfast, Chinese Lunch

Today, continue on to visit Tianmen Mountain, literally translated as "Heaven’s Gate Mountain". Taking the world’s longest cable car ride to the summit, where you can visit the glass road built on the cliff. It is very exciting when you are walking on the glass platform. You will also visit Tianmen Cave, which is more than 100 meters long and 63 meters wide. You will then descend by cable car. In the afternoon you will be driven to the airport for the flight to Guilin. When you arrive in Guilin, you will be transferred to the hotel.

Tianmenshan Mountain

Day 9 Guilin-Yangshuo

Today, the tour will start with a leisurely cruise down the Li River. You can enjoy the spectacular limestone rock formations and rural life along the riverbanks. The cruise will end in Yangshuo, a small town set in the lush rice paddies surrounded by meandering rivers and limestone hills. Once there,  you will stroll around the famous West Street where you can buy some gifts for your friends and family. Overnight in Yangshuo.

Li River

Day 10 Yangshuo-Longsheng

Activities: Taichi class in Yangshuo

Meals: Buffet breakfast, Chinese Lunch, Chinese Dinner

In the morning, you will participate in a Taichi class for 1 hour. Taichi is often practiced in China to keep fit and healthy. Afterward, you will explore the countryside of Yangshuo County and see karst hills, rice fields, and local villages. You will then be driven to Longsheng County to explore the magnificent rice terraces. The rice terraces in Longsheng are considered to be the perfect combination of the natural beauty and art. Depending on the weather, you can enjoy the fascinating sunset on the rice terrace. Overnight in Ping'an Village.

D10

Day 11 Longsheng-Guilin

Activities: Long Hair Show in Longsheng

Today after breakfast, you will continue on to visit the fascinating Longji Ping'an Terraced Fields, appreciate the architecture, garments, and cultural scene in Ping’an Village and Huangluo Village. You will also enjoy the traditional Longhair Performance in Huangluo Village.

Lunch will be a tasty local Chinese meal.

After lunch, transfer back to Guilin and visit the highlights. First, visit the fascinating Karst landforms of Reed Flute Cave. Afterward, drive to your hotel in Guilin.

Day 12 Guilin-Congjian-Zhaoxing

In the morning, visit the landmark of Guilin, Elephant Trunk Hill. Elevated at 200m, Elephant Truck Hill measures 108m in length and 100m in width.

Afterward, we will drive to Guilin Railway Station for the high-speed train to Congjiang Railway Station. When you arrive in Congjiang, you will be driven to Zhaoxing Dong Village which is only 20 minutes drive away from the railway station. You will explore the beautiful village, which was first built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). At present, around 1,000 ethnic Dong families live in the village. With hundreds of years’ history, the local ethnic Dong people have created a unique culture that consists of costumes, buildings such as Drum Tower, Grand Choral Songs, their legal system and religion. Stay overnight in Zhaoxing Dong Village.

Day 13 Zhaoxiang-Biasha-Rongjiang

Today, continue to explore other ethnic villages: Yintan Dong Village and Biasha Miao Village. Yintan Dong Village is an authentic Ethnic Dong Village where you will experience the original lifestyle of ethnic Dong people. Biasha Miao Village is known as “the last tribe of gunmen in China”. It has a total population of 2,550 people. Afterward, drive to Rongjiang.

Day 14 Rongjiang-Kaili

Today you will visit Datang Miao Village and Jidao Miao Village. Both are charming ethnic villages that are definitely must-see destinations. You will also have the chance to take photos of the local people who wear the traditional costumes. You will also visit Paikai Village where you can see local residents making Lusheng. Lusheng is a musical instrument with multiple bamboo pipes, each fitted with a free reed, which are fitted into a long tube made of hardwood. Next, drive to Kaili.

Day 15 Kaili-Guiyang-Shanghai

Today you will visit Wangba Ge Village. The Ge people are not officially recognized as national minority group, but as a sub-group under the Miao people. This is primarily because they speak the same language as the Miao people called Hmongic language, a slight variation. With their unique customs and traditional practices, they consider themselves as a distinct ethnic group. The total population is reported to be over 125,000. Next, you will visit the Kaili Ethnic Minority Museum to get further information about the ethnic groups in Guizhou Province. Afterward, drive to Guiyang Airport for the flight to Shanghai. Once there, be picked up and transfer to the hotel.

Day 16 Shanghai

Activities: Night Cruise on the Huangpu River

As the most developed city in China and a new world financial center, Shanghai is definitely a must-see destination.

After breakfast, you will start your full-day tour exploring the metropolis. First,  stroll around the Bund which is a famous waterfront with 52 various buildings of different architectural styles.  Next, visit the Shanghai Old City. This district was the former political, economic and cultural center of Shanghai in ancient times. Next, is the nearby Yu Garden, one of the most famous attractions in the Old City. As a stunning pearl of the metropolis and was originally built in 1559 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty.

Lunch will be served at the famous Lvbolang Restaurant (Shanghai Cuisine) with the local specialty. Lvbolang was a former tea house around the Yu Garden in old downtown in the Ming Dynasty.

This afternoon, visit the well-known Shanghai Museum, one of the best museums in China and famous for its large collection of bronze artifacts. Then,  drive to visit the Former French Concession, with its well-preserved European-style buildings. Tianzifang is a highlight today which has been occupied by art studios, art galleries, bars, and restaurants. You will have a lot to explore here.

Dinner is your own choice. In the evening, you will be transferred to take a leisurely night cruise on the Huangpu River and enjoy the impressive night views of the metropolis.

The Bund

Day 17 Shanghai-Departure

Activities: Maglev train ride (Single way)

Meals: Buffet breakfast

Today, you are free on your own until being transferred to take the Maglev train ride to Shanghai Pudong International Airport for your flight home. Thus, the end of this magnificent tour in China.
