Welcome to the spectacular Tibet! Our local English-speaking guide will greet you at the train station/airport, then send you to the hotel in Lhasa. The rest of the day, have a good rest to acclimatize to the high altitude at the hotel and prepare your exploration of Tibet.
After breakfast, start your full-day tour of Tibet's capital city, Lhasa. First on the itinerary, is the world-famous Potala Palace, which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Next, a visit to the most revered religious structure in Tibet-Jokhang Temple. The temple was built in 647 A.D. during the Tang dynasty, by the king of Tibet to commemorate his queen. It features a unique combination of the architectural styles from Tibet, the Tang dynasty, Nepal, and India.
Next, is the bustling Barkhor Street. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll along this ancient street surrounding Jokhang Temple. Accommodating thousands of visitors each day, the street has a huge variety of shops selling a vast array of items. Tonight, you will enjoy a delicious traditional Tibetan dinner. After the meal, you will be driven back to the hotel.
Today, the tour continues in Lhasa, with a visit to the incredible Drepung Monastery. Founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416, the monastery is situated at the foot of a mountain. At its peak, it was once home to over 10,000 monks. In the afternoon, you will explore the renowned Sera Monastery, founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa disciple, Jamchen Choeje. The monastery is famous for the sutra-debating amongst its monk, held in the courtyard each afternoon. After the tour, drive back to the hotel.
This morning, you will leave Lhasa and drive to visit the beautiful Yamdrok Lake. Considered one of the holiest lakes in all of Tibet, it is the world highest freshwater lake. The tour continues with a visit to the spectacular Karola Glacier, one of the largest continental glaciers in the country.
Afterward, we travel to Gyantse and its famous Kumbum Monastery (also known as Gyantse Kumbum). It is the town's foremost attraction, and cannot be missed. Next, we travel to Shigatse, nicknamed "The Gateway to Everest" and the second-largest city in Tibet. Overnight in Shigatse.
After breakfast, drive to visit the exquisite Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse. Constructed in 1447 during the Ming Dynasty, it is one of the most important Gelug (Yellow hat) monasteries and the largest in Shigatse. The most magnificent sites are the Smiling Buddha and Stupa Hall. After the visit, you will be driven back to your hotel in Lhasa.
Today, at the appointed time, your tour guide and driver will transfer you to Lhasa Airport, thus ending your memorable tour of beautiful Tibet.
