Welcome to Tibet, one of the last pristine places in the world. Our local English-speaking guide will greet you at the Train station/airport by saying "Tashi Delek" and send you to the hotel in Lhasa. The rest of the day, have a good rest to acclimatize to the high altitude at the hotel and prepare for your exploration tour in Tibet.
After breakfast, start your full-day tour exploring the capital city of Tibet, Lhasa. First, visit the famous city landmark, Potala Palace, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Afterward, visit the most revered religious structure in Tibet, Jokhang Temple. It was built in 647 A.D. during the Tang Dynasty by the king of Tibet to commemorate his queen. It features the unique combination of architectural styles from Tibet, the Tang Dynasty, Nepal, and India.
Next on the itinerary, is the bustling Barkhor Street. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll for a wonderful glimpse of Tibetan customs and culture. Tonight, we will arrange a traditional Tibetan dinner as the welcome dinner for you. Afterward, drive back to the hotel.
Today, continue exploring with two important monasteries in Lhasa, the Drepung Monastery, and the Sera Monastery. Drepung Monastery is situated at the foothill of a mountain and was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. It was once home to over 10,000 monks. In the afternoon you will explore the Sera Monastery, which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa disciple, Jamchen Choeje. It is world-renowned for the sutra-debiting amongst the lamas held in the courtyard each afternoon. After the tour, drive back to the hotel.
This morning, you will leave Lhasa and drive to the amazing Yamdrok Lake (Yamtso). You can get a birds-eye view of this stunning lake, which is the world's highest freshwater lake. Likewise, it is considered one of the three holiest lakes in Tibet.
Continue on the tour with the spectacular Karola Glacier, one of the largest continental glaciers in Tibet. We then move westwards to the second biggest city, Shigatse. Overnight at Shigatse
Day 5 Shigatse-Lhatse-Tingri-Rongphu Monastery
Today after breakfast, you will be transferred to the famous Rongbuk Monastery, built in 1899A.D. It is located at the end of Rongbuk Glacier, north of Mt. Everest, which is considered to the monastery with the highest altitude in the world. You can also enjoy the breathtaking views of the peaks of the mighty Himalayas. Overnight in a tent, or the local hostel in Rongbuk Monastery.
Early in the morning, enjoy the sunrise from Rongbuk, then the tour continues with views of Mt.Everest. Hike up, or take a bus to the top of the look-out point to take photos of the splendid Mount Everest. This is the highest point on Earth and the summit of the Himalayas. After the tour, drive back to the hotel in Shigatse.
After breakfast, drive to the well-known Tashihunpo Monastery in Shigatse. Constructed in 1447 during Ming Dynasty, it is one of the most important monasteries for the Gelug (Yellow Hat) Sect, and the largest monastery in Shigatse. The most magnificent attractions here are the Smiling Buddha and Stupa Hall. Afterward, drive back to your hotel in Lhasa.
Today, at the appointed time, your tour guide and driver will drop you off at the Lhasa airport. Thus, ending your phenomenal tour in Tibet.
