As a way to preserve the palace, travellers can now only visit it for 1 hour. The Potala Palace was built by Lozang Gyatso, the 5th Dalai Lama in 1645 and it took around 45 years to complete.
Potala Palace served as a winter palace for generations of the Dala Lama and it also became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
After we tour the Potala Palace, we will visit the Johkang Temple. The temple was built during the reign of King Songtsan Gampo for his two new brides: Princess Wencheng from Tang Dynasty of China and Princess Bhrikuti from Nepal.
It is widely accepted as the Spiritual Heart of the city and houses many Buddhist statues and images from China and Nepal, which were brought by the two princesses as a part of their dowries.
We end the day with a leisurely walk along Barkor Street a public square located around Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, Tibet, China.
The Barkor is a popular devotional street for pilgrims and locals. It's about one kilometre long and you'll get to see a number of nobles' houses.
There are four large incense burners (sangkangs) in the four cardinal directions, with incense burning constantly, an act of respect for the gods for their protection of the Jokhang.
