Lhasa Overview

Lhasa, also known as, "Land of the Gods" has been the centre of the Tibetan Buddhist world for over 1,300 years. When you look to the east, close to the Jokhang Temple and Barkhor area, you'll discover the strong Tibetan influence, its people dressed traditionally and acting on a kora (a religious clockwise motion around the Jokhang Temple), frequently turning prayer wheels.

To the west, you'll find a Han Chinese influence, an area similar to many other Chinese cities, busy and modern, filled with banks and government offices.

You'll want to set a week aside to acclimatise, roam the back alleys, envelope yourself with its culture before moving onto your great Tibetan adventure.
