Description
This Great Wall hiking tour is as breathtaking as it will soon be legendary, once you cross it off your bucket list of course.
In the words of communist revolutionary and founding father of the People's Republic of China Mao Zedong, "He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man." The Great Wall is the world's most impressive ancient engineering feat on the planet today, stretching from Dandong in the east to Lop Lake in the west, along the arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia, measuring at 8,851.8 kilometers (5,500.3 miles) long.
If you're short on time and want to bare witness to its absolute greatness, our expert tour guides will take you along for a ride and show you first hand.
Day 1 Jiankou and Mutianyu Great Wall
Your Great Wall hiking tour starts off at Mutianyu, where we will pick you up at your hotel in Beijing at 8:00 am and head on a 2.5-hour drive to Jiankou.
We're expected to be at Jiankou for 10:30 am to start our 5-hour Great Wall hiking tour.
From there we start at one of the most popular hiking routes of the Great Wall, the section from Jiankou to Mutianyu.
Breathtaking with unmitigated celebrity, the Great Wall serves up an unforgettable experience of the Ming Great Wall, offering great scenery and many ancient watch-towers in excellent condition.
The brickwork is elaborate, with crenellations on both sides and finely curved eaves on some watch tower rooftops.
You can see the decorative gables with animal statues, and tablets bearing calligraphy above some entrances.
The first hour of your Great Wall hiking tour is going straight up where we reach the wall, and then hike to the unrestored towers.
From the wild wall to the west, it is the original Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) with fine stonework, exclusive and remote from mainstream tourists.
And all of the hard work and hiking is worth your while, most especially when you approach Zhenbeilou Tower, where you will have a breathtaking view of the Jiankou section, the most photographed section of the Great Wall.
It has awe-striking views of lush mountains, dragon-like construction, and majestic scenery. Many of the recent photos of the Great Wall today are taken and published here.
From there your Great Wall hiking tour ends in Mutianyu, one of the well-preserved and most notable Great Wall sections.
When you compare it with the iconic Badaling, Great Wall at Mutianyu is more exclusive and remote, a perfect fit for a traveler looking to keep away from the tourist crowd.
It also makes a good destination for hot holidays and anyone wanting a relaxing Great Wall tour.
At about 40 miles (65km) from the north of Beijing city center, the Great Wall at Mutianyu is easy to reach from the the downtown area, making it a convenient commute from the city.
You will get to see the well-preserved watchtowers rarely seen by the average tourist and the scenery alone along this beautiful hike is truly a magical experience.
With woods covering over ninety-six percent of the land, you'll find elegant flowers beds plotted along the summer mountainside, mother nature's garden made for anyone lucky enough to make the journey.
In the autumn the foliage transform the landscape into a golden red journey, and in the wintertime the Great Wall is coated with white snow.
After we plan to eat late lunch on the local farmers’ house, which will be provided after hiking.
We then drive back to the hotel in Beijing, ending your unforgettable 1-day Great Wall hiking tour.
