Guilin is known for its natural beauty and is world renowned for the iconic 'jutted rocks' which fill the skyline -- it's must-have for any photographer's bucket list.
The Flute Reed Cave is often praised as the “Art of Nature Museum”. You'll find stalagmite, stone curtains, stone pillars, stone forests all throughout, and nestled nearby is Fubo Hill, which is tucked along the bank of the Li River.
Fubo Hill was named during the Han Dynasty, and it was inspired while the famous General Fubo passed through the region. In the Tang Dynasty, the Pavilion of General Fubo was built on that hill in his honor and his statue still stands and remains there to this day.
Without question there are many attractions on Fubo Hill aside from Fubo's pavilion; including, the Guishui pavilion, Tingtao pavilion, Mid-Hill pavilion, Pearl-Returning pavilion, Sword Testing Stone, Thousand-Buddha rock to just to name a few features. If you enjoy Instagram-worthy views, standing from the top you'll catch a great view of Li River.
Next on your best of Guilin tour is Elephant Trunk Hill.
Elevated at 200m, Elephant Trunk Hill rises 55m above water surface and measures 108m in length and 100m in width.
It is famous for its vivid silhouette of an elephant who is seemingly drinking water from the river.
Elephant Trunk Hill is often regarded as the “business card” of Guilin, notoriously known for being one of the city's most famous tourist attractions.
Legend has it that the hill is the embodiment of a God Elephant, one who formally was mounted by the Emperor of Heaven.
The Guilin people believe the God Elephant was separated from the Emperor in a war and was stranded in Guilin with severe wounds. It is believed that the God Elephant was saved by a local couple who took care of it.
While the God Elephant was healing, it fell in love with Guilin and decided not to return to the heavenly palace.
When the Emperor accepted its decision he bestowed a pagoda as a way to protect it and the people from evil. Since then, it has never left.
From Elephant Trunk Hill your best of Guilin tour guide whisks you away to the last stop of the tour: Seven Star Park.
As the largest and longest scenic area in Guilin, the Seven Star Park features a pleasant blend of the mountains, waterscapes, caves, courtyards, architecture and cultural sites -- it's your classic Guilin fairyland.
It covers 120 hectares (297 acres) and was named because of the seven peaks (the four peaks of Putuo Mountain and three of Crescent Mountain) inside which strikingly mirrors the Big Dipper constellation.
