You will be driven from Guangzhou to Kaiping, which is about a 2 hours drive.
Kaiping is most renowned for its Diaolou, which are fortified multi-storey towers built from the early Qing Dynasty into to the early 20th century. Their construction was in response banditry in the area. With funds often coming from Chinese who had emigrated abroad, Diaolous were built to protect village inhabits against bandits, who rampaged the region. Built of stone, brick, or concrete, these buildings usually have thick walls, and feature a combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles. In addition to being watchtowers, manyDiaolou also served as living quarters.
On the tour, you will visit Zili Village, which has the largest collection of Diaolou buildings in Kaiping, Li Garden, which is situated in the private compound of Xie Weili (the son of Chinese parents who emigrated to the United States), and Chikan Old Town, where you will visit local shops and the Qilou buildings.
After the tour, you will be driven back to your hotel in Guangzhou.
