In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel in downtown Hangzhou. The next stop is Shaoxing, famous for its rice wine and zigzagging canals through the city. It is the birthplace of many famous figures including Lu Xun, a great patriotic writer in modern times, and Zhou Enlai (Premier Zhou), one of the greatest leaders in China's history.
The first destination on the tour is Lu Town. A combination of both an attraction and a modern theme park, it offers a glimpse of old folk-customs, traditional architecture, and the stunning natural landscape of Shaoxing. In essence, it is a slice of old Shaoxing. Lu Town incorporates Lu Xun’s works, such as the Story of Ah Q, Zhu Fu, Diary of a Madman, perfectly with the traditions of Shaoxing.
In Lu Town, visitors will discover tranquil sights such as ancient bridges, dwellings by the river's edge, and quaint traditional shops. Most of the buildings lining the winding riverbank, appear in Lu Xun’s writings.
Next, is exploring the amazing Keyan Scenic Area, which is famous for its stone sculptures and stone Buddha.
In the afternoon, travel to Shen Garden. It is a lovely classic garden and the site of a famous romantic tragedy between Lu You and Tang Wan. Lu You was a talented poet during the South Song Dynasty. Although he was madly in love with his wife Tang Wan, his mother was not pleased with her daughter-in-law. In ancient China, parents had absolute control over their children's marriage. Therefore, she forced Lu You to divorce his wife. A decade later, Lu You and Tang Wan accidentally crossed paths in this garden, both now married to someone else. Lu You wrote a poem which expressed his sorrow and regret for losing his love. Likewise, Tang Wan also composed a poem in response, conveying the same sadness for the loss.
After the tour, drive back to Hangzhou.
