Hailed as the “Venice of the east” Suzhou is located in the south of Jiangsu province, 50 miles west of Shanghai.
Suzhou has gained widespread notoriety for being home to iconic Chinese gardens.
A Chinese proverb famously echoes that: “In heaven there is paradise. On earth there are Suzhou and Hangzhou.”
Suzhou is famous for its scenic backdrops and its silk.
The city is blessed with lakes and ponds connected by canals, all the canals are lined with whitewashed houses with gray-tiled roofs — a charming city with a disarming setting.
If you're looking for a 1-day adventure through Asia's Venice, you'll want to hop along this interesting 1-day tour.
Your Suzhou tour starts off in the morning, where you and your tour guide will explore Suzhou city.
You will firstly visit the Humble Administrator Garden. The garden was originally built during the Shaoxing period (1131-1162) of the Southern Song Dynasty.
Later in the Yuan Dynasty it became the Dahong Temple's garden and today it's listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You'll notice that water is the main theme of the garden and its scenery; including small forests, hills and rock formations, man-made pavilions, halls and parlors.
From here you will be transferred to visit the thousand-year-old water town Zhouzhuang, which features stone-flagged streets, stone bridges and Ming and Qing Dynasty residences.
Zhouzhuang is located in the southwestern part of Kunshan, at the junction of Shanghai and Kunshan.
As one of the six great ancient towns in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Zhouzhuang owns the bragging rights to being, “the first water town in China.”
After the tour, you will be driven back to your hotel in downtown Suzhou.
