This Tianjin tour features China's crown jewel of North China. Remember: There are four municipalities directly under the Central Government of China: Beijing; Shanghai; Chongqing; and Tianjin. With a total population of 15,469,500, Tianjin is the world's 6th-most populous city proper.
It's also part of the Bohai Economic Rim, owning the bragging rights to being the largest coastal city in northern China. In terms of urban population, Tianjin is the fourth largest city in China, right after Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.
Tianjin is often known for its international harbor and being the economic powerhouse of northern China. It's also often compared to Beijing (although more similar to Shanghai), featuring a nice mixture of both ancient and modernity in both Chinese and Western styles.
Welcome to day 1 of your Tianjin tour! Your journey starts upon your arrival at Tianjin railway station, where our English-speaking tour guide will pick you up safe and sound.
After our friendly introduction, we will escort you to explore the legendary Ancient Culture Street, a Guwenhua Jie in Chinese located in the Nankai District of the Tianjin Municipality, formally opened in 1986.
It's nestled on the west bank of the Haihe River, with the Temple of the Queen of Heaven (Tianhou Palace) as its center.
For your information, the Ancient Culture Street starts from Gongbei Avenue in the north and ends at Gongnan Avenue in the south, measuring at around 750 yards long and 16 feet wide and is often seen as a business street. Many tourists swing by to check out its beautiful architectural sites, buy folk souvenirs and antiques, and indulge in the local food.
From here, your Tianjin tour will navigate towards the well-known Niren Zhang painted sculptures and Weiji kites -- a must-see when you visit Tianjin.
As a friendly reminder, while you coast through the street, located nearby is the Tianhou Taoist Temple, a definite visit worth your while. The temple is related to the Chinese sea-goddess Mazu and many tourists traditionally visit to pray for a safe journey.
During lunch, you will be escorted to visit the Foods Street where you'll find a nice marketplace where you can enjoy the spread of flavors that includes cross-cultural Chinese dishes, such as Goubuli Steamed Stuffed Bun (Goubuli Baozi), Ear-Hole Fried Cake (Erduoyan Zhagao), Fried Dough Twist (Ma Hua), Chatang, Guobacai, and Tangdui to just to name a few. Feel free to explore and try whatever you want.
Afterwards, your Tianjin tour guide will take you to Tianjin Old Concession for a short detour, showcasing the old concession of foreign style architectures. It presents matchless variety featuring densely exotic environment.
Shortly after your Tianjin tour guide will escort you to Tianjin railway station, sending you off back to Beijing and ending your memorable trip in Tianjin.
