Wuzhen, like many historic water towns, is breathtakingly beautiful. It's part of Tongxiang, nestled away in northern Zhejiang Province, China. The city is plotted inside the Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Shanghai triangle, spanning 71.19 km2 (27.49 sq mi), boasting a population of 60, 000 with only 12, 000 permanent residents.
You can explore Wuzhen by visiting all 6 districts: the traditional workshop district; the traditional local-styled dwelling housing district, the traditional culture district, the traditional food and drink district, the traditional shops and stores district, and the water township customs and life district.
Your 1 day Wuzhen tour starts in the morning where you will be picked up by one of our English-speaking tour guides. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want, he or she will escort and drive you (2 hours) to the Eastern Section of Wuzhen, the historic water town famous in south China.
Here is where you'll get to see ancient architecture, old houses, stone-paved alleys, and small canals, all that vein through its old bridges, a truly magical place for anyone lucky enough to experience it.
The local houses have old mottled walls and grey tiles. Most of them date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. You'll notice, in this water town, the locals live life mostly on the canals, from daily washing to shopping from vendors on boats -- indeed water is life.
Your Wuzhen tour guide will then take you through historic and rare stores, rare and extinct in modern cities; such as, the Indigo Fabric Workshop and more. We will also visit Wuzhen museums; such as, the Ancient Bed Museum and Folk Customs Museum, here's where we really get a chance to learn about the history of Wuzhen and how it became what it is today.
The Ancient Bed Museum is definitely worth a visit for those who like old wooden furniture. The beds displayed feature very exquisite carvings.
We'll also see a must-see performance, such as, the Shadow Puppet Show, a very old form of storytelling that captures the mind, body, and spirit. The puppeteers manipulate the puppets behind a white cloth. When the light is on, shadows of movements are cast as characters and narration is added, a magnetic and special performance enjoyed by both locals and visitors.
We then finish your 1-day Wuzhen tour and drive you back to Hangzhou leaving you with an unforgettable experience.
